This week’s meeting of the Coffeyville Rotary Club was called to order and the invocation offered by President Robyn Tatman. It was announced that Sonia Larrimore has a birthday this week and Walt Miller announced that he and his wife Virginia will be holding a Thirsty Thursday event at their home on September 23rd in honor of David Page.
The Rotarian of the Day was Trisha Purdon, and she introduced Independence City Commissioner Gary Hogsett, Ryan Thompson from Thompson Brothers and County Appraiser Dee Carter. The four reported on a trip they made to the Tyson facility in Springdale, Arkansas in June. Trisha said the one aspect they noted the most was the cleanliness and lack of an odor at the facility. She added that there has been a lot of questions from local residents about the amount of water a Tyson plant in Montgomery County would need, but because of recycling that Tyson does the amount of water would have a minimal effect. Trisha said that Coffeyville and Concordia are the only two cities in Kansas still under consideration for a future Tyson facility.
There was no winner in this week’s 50-50 drawing and next week’s Rotarian of the Day will be Craig Correll who will speak about the upcoming school bon d issue.
