What is the cost of following Jesus Christ, of living this Christian life? When I first became a Christian and decided to follow Jesus, I must admit I was unsure of what I was getting myself into. Some years later I was alone and living in Amarillo, TX and it was obvious I needed to decide if I was really going to follow Christ. That meant following Jesus Christ whether I got what I wanted out of it or not. Was I going to follow Him, Christ, regardless of the circumstances? It was a difficult decision then. It still is today at times, and I pray I never turn from it. When I was a child I remember singing the song “I have decided to follow Jesus” and the heart of the song still rings in my mind. I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back, no turning back. Even if none go with me I will still follow Him. My cross I’ll carry till I see Jesus, the world behind me the cross before me. We all must make a decision to follow Christ and we need to decide to not turn back on that decision. Sometimes that decision may end old friendships and separate families; it may bring loneliness. We will have difficulties in this life until Christ’s return, but we are called to still move forward. We are in this world; we live here, but our citizenship is in the New Heaven and New Earth and our hope is in Jesus Christ. Because of this I have decided to Follow Christ.
“Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:24,
“Again, Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
